The Asclepius Initiative has just received a grant to provide health insurance literacy education to Black, Spanish-speaking and rural populations in Kentucky (do you qualify for Medicare/Medicaid, how do you choose among Marketplace plans or cafeteria options from your employer), to help people find coverage that makes their health care as affordable as possible. The grant is projected to start 7-1-23 and will run through 5-31-24.
We are hiring immediately for the following positions: 

  • Project Manager

  • Communications Associate

  • Health Insurance Literacy Educator

Project Manager

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the PM will be responsible for oversight, development, deployment, and recording of grant activities, along with the budget. The PM will work collaboratively with the grant’s Communications Associate and Program Educator.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines

  • Delegating tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them

  • Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project

  • Communicating with executives or the board to keep the project aligned with their goals

  • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected

  • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change

  • Cultivating and advancing relationships with current and future project partners

  • Oversee grant activities, documentation, reporting, and engagement of stakeholders

  • Oversight, tracking, and recording of budget activities

  • Work with the Communications Associate, Educator, and partners to develop a training toolkit and other educational materials

  • Supervise collection of staff notes and call logs, including key contacts, personnel to be trained, planned events, conferences, and educational materials to be distributed

  • Collect and record feedback from partners on the approaches being employed, the message, the presentation of information, and the resonance of information as developed for their communities

  • Track progress toward meaningful community engagements

  • Regular meetings with TAI leadership

  • Preparation of regular and summary grant reports

  • Other duties as assigned

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Update and manage job descriptions for program positions

  • Develop, motivate, and lead a program team; set and coordinate team goals and evaluate the performance of team members

  • In collaboration with the ED, develop and ensure all program staff receive orientation and training, and that required paperwork is completed

  • Work with the ED to address and mediate HR concerns between program staff as needed

  • Manage any site leader or other partner issues that arise, respond appropriately, and resolve all conflicts in a timely manner with professionalism and tact

  • Review and submit incident report forms to the ED

PROGRAM REPORTING

  • Submit timely and accurate program and evaluation reports to the ED for grant reporting purposes

  • Work with the Executive Director to implement communications and educational programming

  • Meet with partner sites regularly throughout the grant & attend a statewide educational conference

  • With assistance from the ED, prepare end-of-project report for distribution to funder, partners, and diverse public consumption

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with project management

  • Proven effectiveness in managing a team and educational programs

  • Superior organizational and time management skills and attention to detail

  • Thrives leading collaboratively and executing a shared team vision

  • Ability to implement efficiencies to improve work processes

  • Ability to prepare and present reports or recommendations clearly and concisely to the Executive Director

  • Ability to compile financial and operational data and to analyze charts and reports and statistical and budgetary statements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and organizational partners

  • Experience working with communication creatives

  • Experience with grant reporting

  • Delegates effectively

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Proficient in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Self-motivated and able to self-direct

  • Access to personal transportation for periodic travel in Kentucky

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Understanding the US healthcare landscape

This full-time exempt salaried position offers an annualized rate of $50,000-$60,000 annually, depending on education and years of professional experience. The grant runs from 7/8/23-5/31/24. However, duration of employment may be extended if funding is available.

Job is primarily remote. However, ability to attend in person meetings in Louisville and periodic travel to partner sites throughout Kentucky is necessary.

Health Insurance Literacy Educator

The Educator will work with TAI’s Executive Director (ED), Communications Associate, and community partners to better understand values and goals of these sub-populations and work to co-develop educational materials with partners and trainers who are identified by the partners. The Educator will then train the trainers and may also deliver information directly to the public at events organized by or facilitated by TAI’s partnering entities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In concert with TAI’s partners, develop written, oral, and video educational materials on health insurance options, criteria, and factors to consider when obtaining insurance for individuals and/or their families

  • Obtain, record, and disseminate feedback from TAI’s partners as to the adequacy, understandability, and usefulness of the educational materials. Implement changes in consultation with the team.

  • Prepare materials and presentations in such a way that they reflect cultural respect and understanding

  • Directly deliver education about how health insurance is structured and how this affects individual choices and their health

  • Work with the PM, Communications Associate and partners to develop educational materials, including a training toolkit, videos, and media communications

  • Develop evaluation and feedback mechanisms designed to measure effectiveness and usefulness of educational toolkits, as well as the information delivered to populations of focus.

  • Build relationships with partners and their staff

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in related field such as Public Health, Health Education or Community Health

  • Understanding of the US healthcare landscape.

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and organizational partners

  • Ability to master complex subject matter

  • Proficient in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Understanding of adult educational design and proven effectiveness in educational programs

  • Ability to adjust communications based on knowledge (health care, literacy, numeracy) and educational level of the audience

  • Familiarity with online instructional design, such as Adobe Captivate

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Access to personal transportation for periodic travel in Kentucky

This full-time exempt salaried position offers an annualized rate of $45,000-$55,500, depending on education and years of professional experience. The grant runs from 7/8/23-5/31/24. However, duration of employment may be extended if funding is available.

Communications Associate

REPORTS TO: Project Manager
STATUS: Full Time


The Communications Associate (CA) will work with TAI’s Executive Director (ED), Project Manager, Educator, and community partners to better understand values and goals of these sub-populations, co-develop educational materials and plan their delivery by Trainers identified by our partners. The CA will then assist with training the Trainers to deliver information to the public at events organized by or facilitated by TAI’s partners. The CA may also directly deliver information to the public.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In concert with TAI’s partners, create written, oral, and video educational materials on health insurance options, criteria, and factors to consider when obtaining insurance for individuals and/or their families

  • Create content consistent with TAI’s brand guidelines and mission; build an effective communications calendar

  • Prepare materials and presentations in such a way that they reflect cultural competency and literacy

  • Build relationships with partners and their staff

  • Assist in the development and use of a toolkit for training the Trainers

  • Track and report on the effectiveness of communications materials and strategy

  • Prepare oral and written promotions for programming events

  • Supervise and collaborate with social media intern

  • Solicit and promote community member stories

  • Oversee development and production of communication content to effectively convey ideas and messages, including through data visualization and educational videos for use by TAI and partners

  • Create a newsletter with content that advances the case for universal healthcare coverage and provides information related to the challenges securing adequate, affordable, equitable healthcare in Kentucky

  • Coordinate paid and organic campaigns

  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree Communications, Marketing, or a related field

  • 1-3 years experience in healthcare communications, public health communications, or health insurance communication

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience communicating with diverse populations

  • Ability to master complex subject matter and convey it simply and accurately to low health literacy groups

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proactive and able to self-direct

  • Thrives leading collaboratively and executing a shared team vision

  • Impact minded, with focus on development of creative solutions

  • Experience with print, web-based, social media, and direct-to-consumer communication and public relations (provision of a sample portfolio desired)
